Unfortunately adversity is something which every single one of us has to go through at some point in our lives. It can hold us back, it can damage our motivation and it can basically feel like we are stuck in a terrible situation with no way out.
However there is a way out and there is a way to overcome adversity; you just have to understand the situation and look at it from a different perspective. Think of it as an outside situation for example. When you look at somebody else’s life it is easy to see how they can change and you can spot various different ways in which they can get out of the situation that they are in. That is because you are not emotionally attached to the situation and it makes it easier to look at things from different angles.
So, in order to overcome adversity in your life you need to emotionally detach yourself from the situation in order to find a way out.
Acceptance is the Key
The more that you fight against something, the more you will lose. Adversity is something which will affect you at some point and that is something which you need to come to terms with. However, just because you have to accept it; it does not mean that you have to suffer.
Suffering is something which we choose to do whether we realize that we are making a choice or not. It is harder to choose against suffering but you can if you want to. Choose to be strong. If you need to find motivation to be strong then find it in whichever means possible. Anything that makes you stronger, surround yourself with it. Think to yourself “I cannot change this situation but I can change how I feel.” By becoming a fighter and not giving up, it will help you through the adversity and you will eventually overcome it.
Try and See Adversity as a Positive Thing
As hard as it may seem, adversity can actually be a positive thing. There is a saying that every single thing happens for a reason and whatever does not kill us makes us stronger. That is certainly true for all of us and if we learn to look at adversity as a lesson instead of letting it drag us down, we can only come out of the experience stronger than before.
Think about it, if there were no challenges in life it would be a fairly boring place to be. We would not win anything and we would not feel the satisfaction that we achieve once we have come through adversity. Whether we accept it or not, adversity truly can be a positive thing and it can give us satisfaction as well as strength.
Overall you can overcome adversity and you are strong enough to do so. Whenever you hear that little voice in your head which says “I cannot do this”, simply remind yourself that you can and do not give into the fear and simply give up. If you just accept the situation and get through it as well as you possibly can, you will soon find that you have overcome adversity and that you can now start living the life that you deserve to live.
We can learn to adapt.
“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which, in prosperous circumstances, would have lain dormant.”
Around the world companies are crashing and jobs are tumbling at an alarming rate. And to quote Horace again, now more than ever is the time to “keep an even mind”. Undoubtedly some individuals will be crushed by the circumstances they found themselves in; others will relish these conditions. They love stormy weather it brings out the best in them.
Just as a little reminder: There were more self-made millionaires during the recession of the 1920s than during any other time. Why should it be different during this far less serious time we are going through? Sometimes, people get too complacent when they feel “safe” and stop developing their skills and talents. The time of adversity is the best time to tap into your potential and to be creative. Do you remember when you were excited the last time about something? Take that thought and brainstorm about the endless possibilities hidden in your passion. Why not be bold and use your passion to open a new door?
If anyone was ever in doubt, there is no security in a 9-5 job. It has been said that the only predictable way to become wealthy is to own your own business. And, if you think that now is the worse possible time to start a business you couldn’t be further from the truth.
However, this statement should perhaps be tempered by adding that some individuals are not suited to be out and out business owners or entrepreneurs. This does not mean that you cannot find ways to boost your current income from a regular job.
When setting up a business to survive and thrive tough economic times there are several factors to consider so that you effectively recession-proof your business and ensure business success.
Here are 5 critical things that you need to learn when building or growing a business during an economic downturn:
1. Where you need to make cuts during a recession.
2. Where you need to spend more during a recession.
3. How to automate and systematize your business.
4. How to work on your business as opposed to working in your business.
5. How to boost your self-esteem so that your self-confidence remains high when dealing with the many challenges that you will face.
Putting these elements into place will help to ensure that your business not only survives a recession but also thrives during tough economic times.
How to turn your Adversity into Success
1. Find the diamond in the coal.
Everything that you go through in life has value to it. It may not always seem like it because all you can remember is the pain or hurt you’ve experienced. You must remember that, right now, there are thousands of people who are going through the same types of situations that you are going through. The things that you learned from your adversity can help others get through their own difficult circumstances. Many times you can even turn what you learned into a profitable business.
2. Keep your purpose alive.
If your purpose for doing what you are doing dies, then adversity will conquer. However, if you constantly keep your purpose and vision in the fore-front of your mind, then you will press through any adversity you are facing because you know that what you are doing in life is bigger than the present circumstances you are experiencing.
3. Get back up.
Surround yourself with people who can help you through the tough times in life. You were never meant to do everything by yourself. Sometimes you need to have people around you to encourage you. Isolating yourself in times of adversity is one of the worst things that you can do.
Don’t let adversities in your life win. Use these 3 keys to help you overcome adversity so that you can have the success that you know is supposed to be yours!
